What I Learned at My Summer Internship

At the end of my senior year of high school, I felt as though many of my peers had their career paths somewhat planned out, and I still couldn’t decide on a major. I stressed about where I saw myself working in the future. I took a deep breath and hoped I would figure it out with time and some guidance.

Fortunately, after researching the courses and majors at my college, and giving a lot of thought into my strengths and interests, I found a major that felt like a good fit. I decided to pursue a relatively new program: social media and emergent technologies (SMET) with a minor in business. This degree focuses on how to apply concepts to run effective social media campaigns for different organizations. But honestly, it wasn’t until I received this great opportunity to intern for CGI Interactive that I finally had an idea of what I wanted to do after college.

I’ve learned how important it is to work as a team… consistently helping each other to create quality work in a very efficient and timely manner.

My first day at CGI Interactive, the staff—who are more like a family—immediately welcomed me and genuinely wanted to make me feel comfortable. I remember being so nervous for my first day, but the second I walked into the office, I was greeted by so many kind and happy people that the nerves subsided. Along with meeting such a great group, I also gained insight into how a digital design agency works. I’ve learned how important it is to work as a team, and CGI Interactive proves this concept. Everyone is consistently helping each other to create quality work in a very efficient and timely manner.

During my internship, I’ve been lucky enough to sit in on two projects with clients. Being able to see a project created from start to finish was very insightful. I was able to observe the process and recognized that it doesn’t always come easily. Each team member works hard to make the results perfect, and their clients happy. I hope that one day, I get to experience the ups and downs of working full time for a digital design agency. Although the work was incredibly valuable, it was only a small part of what made this experience so special. All of the people I met; from the sales team to project managers and the creative designers, all taught me new things and helped me grow as an employee and even as a person.

So, to sum things up…

  • What it’s like: You’re not just an “intern” you’re truly a member of the CGI team where everyone welcomes you with open arms.
  • What I learned: It’s essential to choose a job where genuine people surround you and work tirelessly to deliver outstanding content.

As I finish my college experience, I want to give a huge thank you to the entire CGI Interactive family and for all the different lessons they taught me. I will carry these teachings with me through my professional journey.

Thank you, CGI Interactive!
