Copyright Clearance Center: Responsible AI

CCC came to us with a topic near and dear to our industry. AI and how to protect the creators who make content that is inevitably used to train it. AI has the potential to accelerate and generate creative, as well as threaten creator’s ability to make a living. There’s no reason we can’t have both, but it requires thoughtful and responsible use of AI. This video was created to generate awareness of both the problem and a core part of the solution.

When talking about creators, we needed to use a broad brush, er mouse, or maybe keyboard? Creators create so many different things that can be covered by copyright. From a thesis or article to a piece of art or music. Our team had to come up with a design approach that allowed us to show the breadth of creators to underline the amount of people we are talking about as well as the variety of things that fall under copyright protection.

It was important that the design did not come across as locking down content, as much as driving conversation around how to both protect creators and leverage the opportunities of AI. To represent the protection for creators we use a bracketing circular element throughout. This element also helped give an anchor to each scene.
